Improving data quality and compliance
Case study with SEB Baltics

THE CUSTOMER

SEB Baltics provides universal banking including advisory services to private individuals and all corporate customer segments in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, with significant market shares across key segments and products in all three countries.

As part of the broader SEB Group, the bank benefits from a robust network that serves over 400,000 businesses and more than five million private customers across twenty countries. In the Baltic region alone, the Group employs over 3,000 professionals, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in financial services.

CHALLENGES

Before implementing SelectZero’s platform, SEB Baltics lacked a centralized tool and approach to data quality management. As a result data validations were handled inconsistently across various systems – some relying on custom validation checks, others on manual, report-based processes. This approach led to inefficiencies, increased manual efforts in detecting and resolving data issues, and ultimately delivered unreliable reports. The absence of a unified approach not only heightened compliance risks but also forced teams to spend considerable time reconciling data discrepancies, driving up operational costs and impacting overall efficiency.

WHAT IMPACT DOES SELECTZERO HAVE?

SelectZero’s platform is seamlessly integrated with SEB Baltic’s data warehouses and credit risk scoring systems across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. As one of the earliest adopters, SEB quickly recognized the platform’s primary benefits in enhanced data quality management.

SelectZero’s Data Observability platform streamlines the creation and scheduling of various data validations, complete with email alerts that flag any failed rows. This enables the bank to automate and proactively monitor data quality, reducing manual workload while improving reporting accuracy and ensuring better governance and traceability of data issues. The platform is used to execute more than a 1000 data validations running on daily or monthly schedule.

By standardizing its data validation approach with SelectZero, SEB has significantly improved compliance tracking – particularly in meeting rigorous European Union regulations such as BCBS 239 and Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting (RDARR). For example, the platform effectively identifies inconsistencies in customer risk scoring data fields, preventing errors that could otherwise lead to incorrect risk assessments and potential compliance breaches.

WHY SELECTZERO?

After a comprehensive evaluation process, SEB chose SelectZero for its data observability platform due to the substantial efficiency gains and reduction in manual validations it delivered. The smooth and rapid deployment of the self-hosted version, coupled with outstanding support from the SelectZero team, ensured a smooth and quick implementation. The platform has evolved considerably since its initial release, consistently exceeding expectations through regular updates and a roadmap that adapts swiftly to customer feedback.

SelectZero’s privacy and security features align perfectly with our high standards, and its seamless integration across our processes in the Baltics further proves its value to the company.

“Our collaboration with SelectZero has been smooth and productive. When implementing new solutions, our main goal is for them to help optimize resource usage. The integration of SelectZero’s platform simplifies banking processes and enables us to make even more detailed and personalised decisions based on the data we have.
